Genuine GIF89a encoding
The download is an authentic GIF89a file with NETSCAPE2.0 loop blocks and per-frame delay headers. It is not an MP4 rewrap or CSS simulation.
Transform static photos into engaging animated sequences. Build custom GIFs entirely in your browser: arrange frames, set speed and looping, add captions and transitions, then download a real animated GIF with no watermark.
Images to GIF is a free image to GIF converter from Entertainment Couch that turns two or more still images into an animated GIF. You arrange the frames, set the speed and looping, and optionally add text, transitions and custom sizing. Then you download a genuine GIF file. Everything runs in your browser, so your photos are never uploaded and there is no watermark.

To create a GIF from images, add them to the tool, drag them into order, choose a speed and loop setting, and press Create GIF. Check the result in the preview, then press Download GIF.
Drop two or more JPG, PNG, WebP or other images onto the tool, press Choose images, or paste from your clipboard.
Drag thumbnails into order. Duplicate, rotate, crop or delete frames, and give any frame its own custom duration.
Pick Slow, Normal, Fast or an exact millisecond timing, choose looping, and add dimensions, text captions or transitions.
Press Create GIF, check the real encoded result in the preview player, then press Download GIF. No watermark.
Yes. You can turn photos to GIF from JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, AVIF and still GIF files, and mix formats and orientations in one animation. Every image is fitted to the same canvas output size.
| Conversion | What to expect | Best practice |
|---|---|---|
| JPG to GIF | Camera and phone photos convert cleanly. Colors are reduced to 256 per frame. | Keep Floyd–Steinberg dithering on for smooth skies and skin tones. |
| PNG to GIF | Sharp graphics, illustrations and logos stay crisp. Transparency is preserved. | Try Dithering: None for solid colors and the smallest file size. |
| WebP to GIF | WebP photos convert just like JPG or PNG. Animated WebP uses its first frame. | Mix freely with JPG and PNG images in the same sequence. |
| HEIC to GIF (iPhone) | Works in Safari, which decodes HEIC natively. | On other browsers, export the photo as JPG first or use Safari. |
| Mixed orientations | Portrait and landscape photos adapt cleanly with Contain, Cover or Stretch. | Use Cover for full-bleed display or Contain to ensure no edges are cropped. |
Use 1 to 3 seconds per frame for photo slideshows, 100 to 200 milliseconds for reaction GIFs, and 40 to 100 milliseconds for smooth stop-motion. Divide 1000 by the fps to get the millisecond duration.
| Use case | Duration per frame | Equivalent FPS | Recommended preset |
|---|---|---|---|
| Photo slideshow or product showcase | 1,500–3,000 ms | 0.3–0.7 fps | Slideshow |
| Before-and-after comparison | 800–2,000 ms | 0.5–1.25 fps | Slow |
| Web banner or general animation | 300–600 ms | 1.7–3.3 fps | Normal (Standard) |
| Reaction GIF or meme | 100–200 ms | 5–10 fps | Fast |
| Stop-motion or flipbook motion | 40–100 ms | 10–25 fps | Flipbook |
| Maximum reliable browser speed | 20 ms | 50 fps | Custom |
The tool draws every frame on an HTML5 canvas, then runs a dependency-free GIF89a encoder in a Web Worker background thread. It selects optimal 256-color palettes, applies dithering, stores only changing pixels, and compresses with LZW.
The download is an authentic GIF89a file with NETSCAPE2.0 loop blocks and per-frame delay headers. It is not an MP4 rewrap or CSS simulation.
Weighted median-cut quantization refined with k-means finds the most important colors. Choose one global palette or individual per-frame palettes.
Serpentine Floyd–Steinberg error diffusion hides color banding on gradients. Ordered Bayer dithering offers stable grid patterns and reduced file size.
Static pixels between frames are marked transparent, and sub-frames are cropped to the bounding box of change, substantially shrinking output size.
GIF stores delay in centiseconds (10 ms units). Rounding errors are accumulated and carried forward so overall playback duration remains exact.
Heavy encoding tasks run off the main UI thread via Web Workers. You get a live progress bar and can cancel anytime without freezing your tab.
The Best preset gives each frame its own palette for maximum photographic accuracy. Balanced shares a single global palette to reduce file size by ~10–15%. Smallest drops the color count to 96 and uses ordered dithering for lightweight sharing.
| Preset | Colors | Dithering mode | Palette type | Recommended for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Best | 255 + transparency | Floyd–Steinberg 90% | Per frame (local) | Scenes with high color contrast between frames |
| Balanced | 255 + transparency | Floyd–Steinberg 80% | Global | General animations, social posts, websites |
| Smallest | 96 colors | Ordered / Bayer 60% | Global | Email newsletters, chat stickers, quick downloads |
