Streaming services have transformed the entertainment industry by giving audiences more control over what they watch, when they watch it, and how they watch it.
The shift has also changed what gets made. Shorter seasons, genre-bending formats and international productions all find an audience far more easily than they did in the broadcast era.
For viewers, the upside is choice. The downside is fragmentation — following a favorite show can now mean juggling several subscriptions at once.
As the market matures, expect more bundling and ad-supported tiers as services compete for a share of a very crowded watch list.
