Add your Word file, check its pages and options, then press Convert to PDF and download the result. It takes a few seconds for a typical document and needs no account, upload or Microsoft Word.
Drop DOCX files on the converter or press Choose files. You can add several at once.
Open a file to preview its pages and choose which ones to keep. Use the arrows to set the order.
Choose page size and quality, and turn on bookmarks, links, page numbers or a watermark.
Press Convert to PDF, check the page preview and download your PDF or ZIP.
Besides a faithful copy of each page, the converter adds a searchable text layer, clickable links and table of contents, and bookmarks from your headings. It converts batches, merges documents into one PDF, and lets you pick pages, page size, quality, page numbers and a watermark.
Page size, margins, fonts, spacing, tables, images, columns, headers and footers are laid out from the Word file itself. Page breaks that Word saved are followed, and long pages are split between paragraphs and table rows.
Text can be searched and copied. Web links stay clickable, table of contents entries jump to their page, and Heading 1 to 3 become PDF bookmarks.
Add a stack of documents and get one PDF per file in a ZIP, or one merged PDF with a bookmark for each document, in the order you set.
Footers such as “Page 3 of 12” are recalculated for the PDF. You can also stamp simple page numbers on documents that have none.
Preview every page as a thumbnail and keep only the ones you want, or type a range such as 1-3, 5, 8-. Ranges can also reorder or repeat pages.
Choose Compact for upload forms, Balanced for screens or Print for paper, switch to A4, Letter or Legal, go grayscale and add a DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL watermark.
Almost everything you see on a printed Word page is kept: text formatting, paragraphs, lists, tables, images, page setup, columns, headers, footers, footnotes and page numbers. Comments, tracked-change marks and form controls are left out, as they are when Word prints.
| Word feature | In the PDF | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fonts, sizes, bold, italic, underline, colour, highlight | Kept | Embedded fonts are used as is. Missing fonts get a metric-compatible match. |
| Paragraph spacing, indents, alignment, tabs | Kept | Including justified text and tab leaders. |
| Bulleted and numbered lists | Kept | Multi-level numbering such as 1.1 and 1.1.1. |
| Tables, borders, shading, merged cells | Kept | Long tables continue across pages between rows. |
| Pictures and shapes in line with text | Kept | At the chosen quality level. |
| Page size, orientation and margins | Kept | Mixed portrait and landscape sections work. |
| Headers, footers and page numbers | Kept | Different first page and odd and even headers too. |
| Footnotes and endnotes | Kept | Turn off in the options if you do not want them. |
| Hyperlinks and table of contents | Kept | Clickable in the PDF. |
| Text columns | Mostly | Column balancing can differ slightly from Word. |
| Floating text boxes and wrapped pictures | Mostly | Complex wrapping can shift a picture a little. |
| SmartArt and charts | Mostly | Shown when Word saved a picture of them in the file. |
| Comments and tracked-change marks | Not shown | The document is shown as it prints, with changes accepted. |
| Equations | Mostly | Simple equations are shown; complex layouts can differ. |
Open this page in your browser, add the DOCX file from your files app or file manager, and press Convert to PDF. The same steps work on every device, with no app or Office licence needed.
In Safari, tap Choose Word files and pick the DOCX from Files, iCloud Drive or OneDrive. After converting, tap Download PDF and save it to Files, or share it straight to Mail or WhatsApp.
In Chrome or Samsung Internet, tap Choose Word files and select one or more documents. The PDF is saved to your Downloads folder, ready to attach or upload.
No Word licence needed. Open this page in Edge, Chrome or Firefox and drag DOCX files from File Explorer onto the drop area. Hold Ctrl or Shift in the file picker to choose several files.
Drag DOCX files from Finder onto the page. You do not need Word for Mac or Pages, and fonts installed on your Mac are used when the document asks for them.
It is safe with this converter, because your documents are not uploaded. It runs in your browser tab, reads the Word file from your device, lays out and builds the PDF in memory and hands it back to you. Nothing is stored or sent to a server.
Many online Word to PDF converters upload your documents to their servers, convert them there and keep them for a while. That is a risk for CVs, contracts, payslips, tax forms and medical letters. This converter uses the browser’s File API to read files locally and open-source engines running on your device to do the work.
Word’s own Save as PDF gives the closest layout but needs a Word licence. This converter is free, works on any device without Word and keeps files private, and adds batch conversion, merging, page picking and watermarks. Many free websites upload your files and limit how many you can convert.

The Word to PDF converter is designed and maintained by Entertainment Couch, which also publishes free browser games and a set of free online tools. It was last updated on .
Pages are stored as high-resolution images with a searchable text layer, not as live vector text, so zooming far past the chosen quality shows pixels and text cannot be edited in a PDF editor. The text layer covers Latin-script characters. Complex floating objects, SmartArt and equations may differ slightly from Word. Old .doc files and password-protected documents need re-saving as .docx first.
All run in your browser, with nothing to install.

It is a free online tool from Entertainment Couch that turns Microsoft Word documents (DOCX, DOTX, DOCM and DOTM files) into PDF files. Yes. Every feature is free with no watermark, no daily limit, no trial and no paid version. You do not need an email address or an account.
No. The converter reads the Word file itself and lays out the pages in your browser. You do not need Word, Office 365, LibreOffice or any other software.
No. Open the page, add your Word files and convert. There is no account, no app and no browser extension. It works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet and phone.
There is no fixed limit. Add as many files as you like and convert them in one go, either merged into one PDF or as one PDF per file in a ZIP. Very large batches depend on your device's memory.
No. The PDF contains only your document. A watermark is added only if you type your own text in the Watermark option.
Drop your DOCX file on the converter or press Choose files, check the options, then press Convert to PDF and download the result. A typical document converts in a few seconds.
Add all the files together. With Merge into one PDF turned on you get a single PDF with a bookmark for each file. Turn it off to get a separate PDF for each document, downloaded together as a ZIP file or one at a time.
Add the Word files, put them in order with the arrow buttons or the Sort menu, keep Merge into one PDF turned on and press Convert to PDF. Each document starts on a new page.
Yes. Press the pages button on a file to open the page picker. Tap pages to include or leave them out, or type a range such as 1-3, 5, 8-. Only those pages go into the PDF.
Yes. Every control can be reached with Tab. On a file card, the arrow buttons move it, and Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac) starts the conversion.
Yes for most documents. Fonts, sizes, colours, bold and italic text, paragraph spacing, lists, tables with borders and shading, images, page margins, page size and orientation, columns, headers and footers are all kept. See the formatting table on this page for the full list.
Fonts embedded in the Word file are used exactly. Fonts that are not embedded are taken from your device; if a font is missing, a metric-compatible replacement is used (for example Carlito for Calibri and Tinos for Times New Roman), so line breaks stay where Word put them.
Yes. PAGE and NUMPAGES fields in headers and footers are recalculated for the PDF, so a footer such as Page 3 of 12 shows the right numbers. You can also add simple page numbers with the Add page numbers option.
Yes. Links in a Word table of contents and other links to bookmarks inside the document become clickable links that jump to the right page in the PDF.
Yes. Web and email links in your document stay clickable in the PDF when Keep links is turned on, which it is by default.
Yes. With Bookmarks from headings turned on, the PDF gets a bookmarks panel built from your Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3 paragraphs, so readers can jump to any section.
Word decides page breaks with its own layout engine. The converter follows the page breaks that Word saved in the file, and lays out the rest itself, which can move a few lines between pages. Documents last saved in Word keep their page breaks most closely.
DOCX, DOTX (Word templates), DOCM and DOTM (macro-enabled files, macros are never run). These are the formats used by Word 2007 and later, Word for Mac, Word Online, Google Docs downloads and LibreOffice when saving as Word.
Not directly. The older binary .doc format from Word 97 to 2003 is not supported. Open the file in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice, save it as .docx, then add it here.
No. Word encrypts password-protected files, so they cannot be read without Word. Open the file in Word, remove the password under File, Info, Protect Document, save it and add it again.
Yes. In Google Docs choose File, Download, Microsoft Word (.docx), then add that file here. This gives you the extra options, such as page ranges, bookmarks and merging several documents.
No. The PDF shows the document as it would print with changes accepted and comments hidden. Accept or reject tracked changes in Word first if you want to be sure.
Yes. With Searchable text turned on, the PDF has a hidden text layer, so you can search, select and copy words. Latin-script text (English and most European languages) is fully searchable; other scripts still look right but may not be searchable.
Balanced (200 dpi) suits most documents. Compact (144 dpi) makes the smallest files for email and upload forms. Print (300 dpi) gives the sharpest result for printing. Lossless stores every page as an exact image with no compression artefacts, which suits diagrams and fine lines.
A page full of text is roughly 150 to 200 KB at Compact, 300 to 400 KB at Balanced and 600 to 700 KB at Print. Pages with little on them are much smaller. The converter stores each page in whichever image format comes out smaller. For the smallest file, choose Compact, then run the PDF through Compress PDF if you need it smaller still.
Yes. Keep document size uses the page size set in Word. A4, US Letter and Legal fit every page onto that paper size, centred, keeping portrait or landscape for each page.
Yes. The file name box sets the downloaded file name. The document title and author from the Word file are copied into the PDF properties, and you can change the title before converting.
No. The converter only reads your file. The original stays exactly as it was and the PDF is saved as a new file.
No. Your documents are read and converted by code that runs in your browser tab. No file content is sent to Entertainment Couch or anyone else, which makes the converter suitable for contracts, CVs, payslips, medical letters and other private documents.
It depends on the tool. Many online converters upload your files to their servers and keep them for a period of time. This converter does not: the conversion happens on your own device, and files are cleared from memory when you close or reload the page.
No. Macros are never run or read. Only the document content is used to build the PDF.
Once the page has fully loaded, converting works without a connection, because nothing is sent to a server. Reloading the page needs a connection again.

Yes. It runs in Chrome on ChromeOS like any other web page. Pick DOCX files from the Files app or Google Drive.
The file is probably an old .doc file, a password-protected document, a different format renamed to .docx, or damaged. Open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice, save it as a new .docx file and add it again.
The font is not embedded in the Word file and is not installed on this device, so a similar font was used. In Word, turn on File, Options, Save, Embed fonts in the file, save, and convert again. Or convert on the device where the font is installed.
The device probably ran out of memory. Close other tabs and apps, choose the Compact or Balanced quality, and convert fewer or shorter files at a time.
Some browsers ask for permission before saving, or block downloads inside embedded frames. Look for a download prompt or icon in the address bar, allow it, and press Download again.
